Happy Harvest-time

It’s starting to look more like autumn up here. The colors are turning later than usual because it rained so much earlier this autumn–lots of refreshment to keep the plants green longer.

In the spirit of autumn, here is an illustrative piece I painted this week and within a week (started last Sunday, finished Saturday/yesterday).

I’m not sure what I will title it just yet. The tree “slice” on which it is painted has been hanging around the art supplies for a couple years. No idea where it came from since I didn’t purchase it. But I’m glad to have come up with an idea that works with it as a painting surface. Actually, the squirrel picture had been tucked away longer than the tree piece. Maybe five years ago? More? I’m not sure. I had drawn this on the back of some scrap paper while visiting a friend. (This is actually a modified scan of the original drawing; the original had some scribbles to indicate a pumpkin vine curling around the bottom, rather like in the painting.)

As you can see, I made a few changes, including making the pumpkin on which the squirrel squats taller to better fit the vertical picture plane the tree slice provided. It’s fun to bring out old subjects and work with them again.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful painting. I am from the North but have lived in Florida for the last 19 years. I sure do miss my favorite season up North but your painting brings it closer to my heart. A friend from Ohio just sent me a “pop-up” card with a lovely, colorful Autumn tree in the center which I keep prominently in a position where I can look at it every day.

Wishing you a lovely day filled with peace and joy.

hello there! One graduated upper school and is studying animation getting a 18 ms certification here in LA. She is loving it. The other is a SR this year and will graduate in May. I have such perfect memories in your home, your art on the walls, wriggling doggie and cat on stairs, generosity of your family, the snowfall at 3am and my running outside to video it under the lamplight. I am fostering a Chinese girl for 3 years to a local high school and having so much fun. I have a USC retired watercolor teacher on Fridays. I have flowers in the garden attracting butterflies and hummingbirds, two parakeets trying to hatch babies maybe next Sunday to start. So much gratitude and good. Thank you for sharing the art and drawings. I dont have a picture in my mind of were you are living right now. I know you will always be traveling to Fla and around. Love Lynne

Hello back. Nice to hear from you. I’ve been in Princeton, NJ, for about a year and a half now, but yes, I still visit Florida now & then. Glad you & the girls are doing well–including the “newest” one from China and perhaps even more when the birds hatch.

Hi Genevieve, Your harvest squirrel painting is great.. Those rascally squirrels really do enjoy eating pumpkins.
Our pumpkin on our front porch has already been chewed on by a squirrel. Thanks for sharing your painting. Paulie Knadler
