  1. Janet and Art Morey says:

We both love your painting of the tugboat. It is just beautiful, and it looks very complete to us!! Happy day to you!

  2. Jane says:

I learned from Uncle Joe that this tug was build in Texas. Its first mission was to go from Texas to Korea. It was the start of the twin screw tug designs and the most powerful tug in the world at that point in time.

  3. Dad says:

    Hi Genevieve,

Sounds like a good mixture of projects – writing, sketching, painting, music.

What might happen if you combined all of the various project types into a single project?

    Love,

    Dad

    • Genevieve says:

Yes, it’s a good variety of activities, and depending on what I’m doing, they often occur in the same project (usually stories). All four together would certainly make for a video or live performance of some sort, conceivably a gallery opening (art on display, written descriptions and adverts, ambient music)–or something else inventive. Some children’s books also come to mind–the kind that had one or more buttons along the side. Each one played a specific sound or melody, and pictures of them within the story cued the reader to push them.

  4. Dad says:

    Hi Genevieve,

I will be very interested to see where the seagull-spoon story leads. It could have a variety of paths / entanglements beyond the little that we saw / experienced / knew of when it happened however many years ago. Sounds like a fun adventure! I wonder, do seagulls build any sort of nests like many other birds. If so, how might a seagull use a plastic spoon in that process?

If you would like, I could send you a picture of an orange plastic spoon. I still have a set of the orange plastic in my eclectic collection of knives, forks, and spoons.

Have fun with this and all of your other projects.

    Lots of love,

    Dad

    • Genevieve says:

To my knowledge, seagulls generally build nests on rocky outcroppings or right on the ground and usually are just a ring of vegetation–grasses, reeds, etc.

A picture of the orange plastic spoon would be fantastic. Please send one along!

  5. Genevieve says:

I had two primary aims in creating the art for Terry Treble Music Adventures:

    1. To capture the spark of childhood discovery, for instance, by making the illustrations look like a child could have done it (bright colors, outlines, and the cartoon style). Look well–you might find some surprises!

    2. To design and portray two-dimensional characters that could interact in a three-dimensional world, like a playground, and portray figures on a two-dimensional plane, such as a sheet of music.

And to have a little fun, of course.

  6. Dad says:

    Hi Genevieve-

    CONGRATULATIONS! That is great!!

Keep up the art and the punny phrases!

    Lots of love,

I also found a Mr. Clean multi-purpose cleaner around the house that took off the mildew more quickly than the rubbing alcohol. It was Multisurfaces “Summer Citrus.”

  18. lynne pope says:

Love this joyful expression. years ago I saw a cartoon of a airplane and his airplane wife. she was knitting a little airplane and they were so happy. Later the baby arrived and it was a JET! they were so appalled. the little jet loved his parents and later on saves his dad in a situation.
Have you ever seen that darling little movie? if you can find it someday you will love it too.

  19. Wally says:

Loved reading this. I will pass along to Joy.
    Happy for you!
    Wally

    Love your painting! Evelyn

  41. Joanne Battista says:

Thank you for sharing this beautiful painting. I am from the North but have lived in Florida for the last 19 years. I sure do miss my favorite season up North but your painting brings it closer to my heart. A friend from Ohio just sent me a “pop-up” card with a lovely, colorful Autumn tree in the center which I keep prominently in a position where I can look at it every day.

Wishing you a lovely day filled with peace and joy.

  42. lynne pope says:

hello there! One graduated upper school and is studying animation getting a 18 ms certification here in LA. She is loving it. The other is a SR this year and will graduate in May. I have such perfect memories in your home, your art on the walls, wriggling doggie and cat on stairs, generosity of your family, the snowfall at 3am and my running outside to video it under the lamplight. I am fostering a Chinese girl for 3 years to a local high school and having so much fun. I have a USC retired watercolor teacher on Fridays. I have flowers in the garden attracting butterflies and hummingbirds, two parakeets trying to hatch babies maybe next Sunday to start. So much gratitude and good. Thank you for sharing the art and drawings. I dont have a picture in my mind of were you are living right now. I know you will always be traveling to Fla and around. Love Lynne

    • Genevieve says:

Hello back. Nice to hear from you. I’ve been in Princeton, NJ, for about a year and a half now, but yes, I still visit Florida now & then. Glad you & the girls are doing well–including the “newest” one from China and perhaps even more when the birds hatch.

  43. Paulie Knadler says:

Hi Genevieve, Your harvest squirrel painting is great.. Those rascally squirrels really do enjoy eating pumpkins.
Our pumpkin on our front porch has already been chewed on by a squirrel. Thanks for sharing your painting. Paulie Knadler

  44. Evelyn says:

Congratulations on the show…I enjoyed hearing the special news. I am enjoying my Panda grams and note cards.

    Lovingly,
    Evelyn

  45. Dad says:

    Hi Genevieve,

Neat drawings and aeronautical language to match. You can even use ‘ropes’ in this mode of travel!

Happy Panda-gramming, land, sea, sky..or outer space.

    Love

    Dad

  46. Evelyn bicknese says:

Fabulous…I love it! You did a wonderful job capturing the movement with such depth.

    Congratulations! Evelyn

  47. Jon Bergeson says:

    Hi Genevieve,

Thanks for the voyage and the photos of the process!
I like the red against the water and sky.

Thank you for the invitation, though I’ll pass on the N. Atlantic crossing. Been there, done that. It was interesting when submerged. December 1971 headed back to New London CT.

I am not sure it would be very comfortable on the surface under sail in a great ship especially with winter storms whirling around and really rocking the boat.

    Love, D

  48. Evelyn Bicknese says:

Beautiful and inspiring. I was on the Big Island from Sept 20th to the 27th. My only time that I have visited it.
I was amazed at how large the volcano was. I just learned last evening that all the flowers that look like orchids on the grounds around the volcano were brought in by the Chinese many years ago and are called “Bamboo Orchids.”
I am so happy for you.

    • Genevieve says:

Thank you, Evelyn. It looks like we overlapped a little and didn’t even know it. “Amazing” is a good way to describe the size of the volcanoes.

  49. Dad says:

    Hi Genevieve,

Glad you had the trip to Hawai’i.

Very nice artistic memories of your trip.

Sea turtles, volcanoes, and black sand beaches…Some day I hope to travel there to experience them and many other sites, sounds, and tastes.

    Love,

    Dad

  50. Dad says:

Definitely much cleaner and less chance of unwanted sharp object punctures!

And may springtime bring everyone fair breezes and full sunshine.

  56. Dad says:

    Hi Genevieve,

This looks suspiciously like a porthole view of the coastline. Very interesting!

    Love,

    Dad

  57. Dad says:

    Thank you Genevieve.

Cute panda theme, appropriate to the time and occasion!

That is a good sized turtle. I like the greens.

    Love,

    Dad

  58. Evelyn Bicknese says:

    Nice!

    I love it. Congratulations!
    Evelyn

  59. Dad says:

    Hi Genevieve,

I like the purple better than the original color of your oboe.

    Good choice!

    Love,

    Dad

Regarding your Daniel Craig comment I was watching a c1993 British tv show called a Heartbeat where a very young brooding Daniel Craig was a murder suspect. The clip featuring him is available on you tube if you want to check it out. Enjoyed your comments about being creative during this challenging time.

  61. Joanne Battista says:

Hi, I’m a friend of your parents and attend Prin Summer Session every year – for the last 30 years! Your parents have been hosting Rackham for the last couple of years which is how we got to know them. My question is what are the BEST pencils to purchase for a beginner like me. I think MIchael’s has a good selection, but I’m never sure what to buy. Many thanks for your help.

    • Genevieve says:

Hi, Joanne. Are you thinking of graphite pencils (regular/grays), colored pencils, or both? For colored pencils, I highly recommend Prismacolor. I’ve used them for years. (There is also a colorless burnishing pencil you can buy for blending/smoothing. It has a whitish lead.) For graphite/lead pencils, a small set of different weights is good to start with: something that has 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B, and maybe a 2H. (B weights are softer lead/graphite, so they are darker as the numbers increase. H weights get harder & lighter.) I’m not too picky about the brands for these, but I have been using Staedtler Mars & Koh-i-noor sets for a while.

  62. Evelyn Bicknese says:

Love your sketches! Thanks for sharing. Hugs…Evelyn

  63. Wally says:

Really enjoyed the pics and discussion

  64. Evelyn Bicknese says:

    Love your sketches…excellent work!

  65. Jon Bergeson says:

    Hi Genevieve,
It’s great to hear from you and read about and see what you have been / are doing.

Your new storage cabinet looks great. Hope it works well and lasts a long time!

Your re-organization project looks like more fun than mine has been, also still in progress. Fall cleanup, including getting rid of some things no longer needed or useful. Move easily moveable furniture and other large items to clean, vacuum and freshen up carpeted rooms with a water-essential oil spray.

Clean / mop vinyl floors, after moving out everything moveable except the range and refrigerator.

Original Pine Sol does a great job. It even acts as a decongestant though probably not an intended use.

I wish you well with sorting and digitizing your older artwork!

    Lots of love,

    Dad

  66. Evelyn Bicknese says:

Congratulations on a task well done!
We must all have some inspiration for order these days. I have donated four carloads, trunk, back seat and passenger seat loaded with goodies to donation centers in the last few months. What a good feeling to have the storage area, closets and garage looking so much better, and hoping someone else may find something useful. My art room is ready to use…now time for just the right time and inspiration.
